Make a Difference in the Monrovia Community

Become a Director on our Board to help shape and guide the MPWR Foundation and leave a lasting legacy

From the Covid-19 pandemic to the Bobcat Fire, the incredible value of our parks and open space has become even more clear. The city of Monrovia strives to enhance the city’s parks, facilities and recreation programs but ultimately most projects face financial constrains. To help fund these projects the city relies on government grants, and now they can also receive financial support for project and program needs from MPWR.

The MPWR Board meets quarterly with the city of Monrovia to discuss possible projects and programs that need additional funding. Our donations can be large, such as $75K contributed towards new shade structures in Monrovia Library Park, or smaller such as $2K donation to support the Kids Craft in the Canyon art program. As a Board member, you will help decide what we support and how we grow to better support our mission.

If you would like to make a difference to MPWR and our community, we would love to hear from you! The Monrovia Parks, Wilderness and Recreation Foundation is currently looking for potential new board members to help shape and guide the Foundation over the next few years. At this time it would be especially helpful if you have experience in one of the following areas (but that is not required):

  • Legal
  • Graphic Design
  • Social Media

Please email us at empower@monroviapwr.org with any questions or click on the button below to print out and complete the application which you can then scan and email to us (or email us to arrange for a pickup of your application if you don’t have access to a scanner).

Board Benefits:

  • The opportunity to give back to Monrovia by ensuring we can provide amazing park, wilderness and recreational experiences that the Gem City of the foothills deserves.
  • The chance to help shape this new foundation and leave a lasting legacy.

Board Expectations:

  • The Board of Directors will be expected to be part of a “fundraising and working board” and share their time, talent, and treasure. The purpose of the re-imagined board is to financially support the mission of the organization. Therefore, board members will be expected to abide by a give or get policy of $1,500 annually.
  • The board meets monthly (currently the monthly meeting is on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7 PM and is conducted via Zoom).
  • The board collaborates with the City to develop the specific projects and programs they will support through quarterly meetings.
